MOTHER EARTH MOTHER
‘Mother Earth – Earth Mother‘ is a multimedia collaboration involving the combined talents of Nichola Bruce, the award winning acclaimed independent filmmaker, Tim Bushe, an award winning architect and renowned topiarist, Barcelona based Professor Laura Folch, the classical cellist and Gengahr, the London based critically acclaimed psych-pop indie band.
Together the ‘Mother Earth – Earth Mother’ team aim to produce a short film based around the theme of motherhood, and the earth as our protective realm. The film will be based around the real commission to create a linear topiary screen to the Grade 2 Listed Brunswick Centre in London’s Bloomsbury. The Brunswick Centre sits adjacent to the Foundling Hospital site, Londons first childrens charity.
The project will follow the transformation from bare planters to established topiary forms arranged along the Marchment Street elevation in a 35 meter run. The work will be subdivided into seven sections reflecting the building’s structural divisions and each section will feature a theme related to Mother Earth or Earth Mother and additionally it will reference work of the Foundling Hospital’s work caring for children whose mothers, through poverty, had to tragically give up their child into care.
Through a combination of film, topiary and musical content composed specifically for the project a we hope to produce a totally unique and enduring artwork that will in some way add weight to the general message that many climate scientists are trying to get across to public consciousness in the teeth of negative propaganda put out by fossil fuel companies.
The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the climate emergency and the threat it poses to the Earth we all inhabit. It is hoped, through social media exposure, that sponsors will be attracted and so raise money which will be used to support a variety of organisations that are actively trying to promote awareness and action to prevent the worst effects of the impending climate emergency.
